Join the choir
The All Saints Choir seeks adult members who like to sing and learn! We are a volunteer group of approx. 15-20 individuals. We accept all voice types and genders, including queer and non-binary persons. While some of our choristers may have music degrees or come from choral backgrounds, no experience is required.
All prospective singers are encouraged to meet with the Director of Music prior to joining, who will lead a short one-on-one session to evaluate ability and vocal range. Placement Sessions are a simple process that include repeating pitches and rhythms. Music reading skills will also be assessed. We want to get to know you by hearing about your passion for singing! These sessions typically take about 15 minutes.
Appointments can be scheduled at any time during the year. Contact Josh Mauldin, Director of Music, to set up a session: jmauldin@allsaintshoboken.org.
When We Rehearse & Sing
Rehearsals occur on Tuesday nights (7:00pm-8:30pm) September through May.
The All Saints Episcopal Choir sings during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service (with the exception of summer months, when the choir takes a break). Choristers are asked to arrive half an hour early for a vocal warm up, a quick music run-through, and to put on choir robes.
Performance opportunities may arise outside of Sunday mornings depending on the Christian calendar (i.e. Easter and Christmas are busy seasons for our singers). Singers may also be invited to attend an occasional community interfaith service.
We understand that sometimes you will need to miss a rehearsal or a Sunday. When these occasions arise, we simply ask that you communicate them to the director as soon as possible. We are a flexible and accepting group but do trust our choristers to be familiar with their music and to be prepared for services.
Repertoire
Praised for its musicianship, the choir is a staple of the All Saints liturgy. We participate in services by performing hymns, anthems, and chanted Psalms.
Repertoire includes music by composers such as: John Rutter, Jane Marshall, Moses Hogan, Herbert Howells, Felix Mendelssohn, Benjamin Britten, George Frideric Handel, Anton Bruckner.
“Worthy is the Lamb” recorded from home by choristers during the peak of the Covid pandemic.
